Case study: Tidyco chooses Powrmatic LX 50kW to heat the Rail Overhaul Facility

At the beginning of May, Tidyco was featured as the subject of Powrmatic’s case study. Read the full article below to find out more.

The customer

On this occasion, the customer is actually us, Tidyco. Tidyco is a leading, multi-divisional supplier of hydraulics and pneumatics but also a long-term supplier to the rail industry. In addition our other division include on-site emergency hydraulic hose repair. Commercial and industrial electrical services, HVAC services and a mobile auto electrical division.

The requirements

Undergoing a period of expansion, Tidyco has recently acquired an adjoining building, which required significant renovations in order to make the unit fit for purpose. As part of that, the mezzanine floor was removed to make space for the gantry crane. This created the issue of having a large, open space, which the existing heating system was not capable of heating and therefore required replacing. The previous unit was a floor standing cabinet heater, which was not only showing signs of aging but also took up valuable floor space and did not fulfil the needs to heat the space. To replace the previous system, the new heater not only needed to avoid using floor space but also had to be powerful and efficient enough to heat the wide open space.

The solution

There was a need for a product, which would provide a warm and comfortable working environment for the employees amongst other factors. When the project was surveyed, one particular product stuck out above the rest; that was the Powrmatic LX suspended gas heater. This British-made product comes with a range of benefits, which made it the most viable and attractive solution, such as low NOx emissions, ErP 2021 compliant and its ability to heat large open spaces.

Another particular feature, which made this product stand out was its flue system capability. Due to there being PV panels on the roof, it was uncertain as to whether directing the flue through the roof was an option. As the LX has a rear flue exit, this facilitated the possibility of routing the flue pipe through the wall. To further improve efficiency we utilised high level energy-saving destratisfication fans, which improved air distribution and reduced running costs along with state of the art optimising controls.
