Functionality
As the weather has got colder, you’ve probably turned the heating on already. As with the domestic market, in the commercial and industrial world, there are a variety of ways to heat your working environment: gas, oil, electricity.
An issue with larger rooms or rooms with higher ceilings, is that the warm air rises – that is heat travels from an an area of high temperature, to that of low temperature. Furthermore, cooler air is denser and heavier, therefore pushing the warmer air upwards. What you are left with, is lower temperatures towards the ground and warmer temperatures at ceiling level.
This is where a destratification fan comes into its own and can add real benefit. Improving the comfort levels for both employees and customers.
Stratification is where the air forms layers of temperature gradients, with the warmest air at the top and the coolest at the bottom. Destratification fans overcome this by pushing the warm air downwards thus creating an equilibrium of warm / cool air and a more comfortable air temperature for all.
Benefits
Apart from creating a comfortable working environment, destratification fans have a number of other benefits:
Save money by reducing the amount of energy used in heating your areas. The heat is displaced evenly, meaning less energy required to heat the whole room or building
Reduction of humidity thus preventing the buildup of mould and mildew
Increases the speed, at which the area of the building is heated.
Types
There are number of destratification fans, with their own features and benefits:
- Standard – this is a relatively cost-effective option, which gently displaces the warmer air. They function better at a mid to low level.
- Square cased – designed for higher level applications, they recirculate the warmer air trapped towards the roof / ceiling. They often have adjustable louvres to better guide the warm air.
- Round cased – similar to square cased, they are suitable for higher level applications however due to their shape, the air flow is more concentrated.
- Helicentrifugal – as normal destratification fans creates a column of air, due to their design, helicentrifugal fans reverse the air flow by sucking in the cool air and displaces horizontally, creating a better air mix.
Each type of destratification fan comes with their own features and benefits. Our Climate team are more than happy to guide you in the decision making process.
